POSITION OVERVIEW:
\neScience & Technology Solutions, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Voice Systems
\nEngineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the modernization,
\nsustainment, and lifecycle management of Air Traffic Control (ATC) voice communications
\nsystems throughout the National Airspace System (NAS).
\nThis position provides advanced engineering expertise in ATC voice communications, voice
\nswitch platforms, communications networks, VoIP technologies, analog and digital
\ninterfaces, and system integration. The engineer will support all phases of the system
\nlifecycle, including requirements development, technology assessments, market research,
\nsource selection activities, system verification and validation, implementation planning,
\ndeployment support, and long-term sustainment.
\nThe Voice Systems Engineer serves as a subject matter expert and trusted technical
\nadvisor to FAA stakeholders, supporting modernization initiatives that enhance the
\nreliability, interoperability, security, and operational effectiveness of critical NAS voice
\ncommunications systems.<\/p>\n
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
\n\u2022 Provide systems engineering expertise for modernization and sustainment of FAA
\nATC voice communications systems and supporting infrastructure.
\n\u2022 Support the development, analysis, and refinement of technical, operational, and
\nperformance requirements for voice communication systems.
\n\u2022 Conduct engineering evaluations of existing and emerging voice switch
\ntechnologies, communications systems, and network architectures.
\n\u2022 Perform industry and market research to support FAA acquisition planning and
\ntechnology modernization initiatives.
\n\u2022 Support technical evaluations, source selections, engineering reviews, and vendor
\nassessments.
\n\u2022 Analyze and evaluate ATC voice switch architectures, including air-to-ground (A\/G)
\ntrunks, ground-to-ground (G\/G) trunks, networking components, and interface
\nrequirements.
\n\u2022 Assess and develop solutions involving analog, electrical, digital, IP, and VoIP
\ncommunications technologies.
\n\u2022 Support system integration activities involving voice switches, network
\ninfrastructure, communications circuits, and operational support systems.
\n\u2022 Develop, review, and maintain engineering documentation, technical reports,
\ndesign packages, interface control documents, test plans, and implementation
\nplans.
\n\u2022 Participate in system verification, validation, testing, acceptance, and deployment
\nactivities.
\n\u2022 Evaluate system performance, operational effectiveness, interoperability, reliability,
\nmaintainability, and supportability.
\n\u2022 Collaborate with FAA engineering organizations, Tech Ops personnel, program
\nmanagers, contractors, vendors, and operational stakeholders.
\n\u2022 Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to support successful
\nsystem implementation and sustainment.
\n\u2022 Provide technical recommendations supporting lifecycle planning, modernization
\nroadmaps, and long-term strategic initiatives.
\n\u2022 Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex
\ncommunications and systems integration issues.
\n\u2022 Analyze, design, develop, implement, and test software solutions supporting
\nengineering, operational, or functional requirements associated with NAS systems
\nand supporting applications.
\n\u2022 Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, milestone reviews,
\nand engineering working groups.
\n\u2022 Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering and project teams as
\nneeded.<\/p>\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
\n\u2022 Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
\nEngineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
\n\u2022 10+ years of engineering experience supporting communications,
\ntelecommunications, networking, voice systems, or aviation-related technologies.
\n\u2022 Experience working with Air Traffic Control (ATC) voice communications systems.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting requirements development, systems engineering,
\nintegration, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management activities.
\n\u2022 Knowledge of FAA National Airspace System (NAS) voice communications
\narchitectures and operational environments.
\n\u2022 Experience with ATC voice switch platforms, associated hardware, software, and
\ncommunications interfaces.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting voice switch air-to-ground (A\/G) trunk design and
\nimplementation.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting voice switch ground-to-ground (G\/G) trunk design and
\nimplementation.
\n\u2022 Experience with communications networking, VoIP technologies, and voice\/data
\ncommunications systems.
\n\u2022 Knowledge of analog, electrical, digital, and IP-based communications interfaces.
\n\u2022 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
\n\u2022 Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
\n\u2022 Ability to work independently while effectively supporting multidisciplinary teams.
\n\u2022 Ability to manage multiple technical assignments within established schedules and
\npriorities.
\n\u2022 U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain FAA suitability requirements.<\/p>\n
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
\n\u2022 Prior FAA, NAS, Engineering Services, Technical Operations (Tech Ops), or Air Traffic
\nOrganization (ATO) experience.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting FAA voice communications modernization initiatives.
\n\u2022 Experience with FAA voice switch systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and
\noperational communications environments.
\n\u2022 Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies, requirements management
\ntools, and lifecycle management processes.
\n\u2022 Experience supporting operational test and evaluation activities.
\n\u2022 Experience working on federal acquisition, source selection, or technology
\nassessment efforts.
\n\u2022 Familiarity with cybersecurity considerations and secure communications
\narchitectures.
\n\u2022 Experience developing software, automation, or engineering support tools.
\n\u2022 Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, or a
\nrelated discipline.
